http://www.sinc.sunysb.edu/Clubs/Kumdo/ Kumdo = Kendo (They are same thing!!!!!) Some of few narrow-minded Kum/Kendoists from both Korea and Japan state that Kumdo or Kendo originated from their own country while criticizing each other. However true Kumdo/Kendoists do not try to make conversation out of those. They only try to perfect their way to Ken/Kumdo itself. The only proper way to speak about it is through the sword, not through the mouth.

http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Loge/9574/kendo.txt Difference between Kendo and Kumdo Kumdo: is a Korean art of Kendo. (省略) I have find that Kendo and Olympic style taekwondo is very similar in terms of sparring. Both emphasize on attacks and counters. Rather than defense. Chinese martial arts emphasize mostly on defense. I think it's because Both Kendo and Taekwondo have warrior spirits. And in other hands, Chinese are more philosophical. The "best" weapon players in Asia.//Chinese: The best of spear player//Corean: The best of bow & arrows //Japanese: The best of sword player These Chinese, Corean, and Japanese are consider brothers. ★So, China would be first child, Corea seccond and Japan at last.
http://www.concentric.net/~sdseong/kmar.vid.kd.htm Yet Korean kumdo is undeniably similar, some might argue identical, to Japanese kendo. The footwork, hand movements, protective gear, real and practice weapons, sparring rules, etc. lend credence to their claims. At least one part of kumdo, however, differs significantly from the way the Japanese practice the art. It is the "bon-guk kum-bup," or indigenous sword form. It consists of a series of movements that cannot be observed in the Japanese art; the Koreans claim this proves the form comes from the ancient sword ways of their ancestors.

http://www.unc.edu/student/orgs/tkd/essay/tkdtextbook.html According to Haedong Chukki: "there was a hand-trick called Supyokch'iki and foot-trick was called T'aekkyon respectively." In Chaemulbo, "supak" was recorded as Pyon and Kakryok was referred to as Mu which is similar to present day Taekkyon. Muetobo-t'ongji as presented above is a sort of anthology in which a variety of unarmed combat skills quoted from that of China rather than from Korean sources. Presentation of the books is not very systematic either. Since the compilation took place in the latter part of Yi Dynasty, the book lacks its classical value. Nevertheless the book lists the unarmed combat skills as military art.

http://www.kendo.or.jp/english-page/brief-history-of-kendo.htm Japanese swords were originally not the curved swords we see today but were flat straight swords of a very primitive construction used for thrusts and simple strikes. The Japanese swords seen today appeared around the year 940, are single-edged, and have a slight curve. Until these two-handed swords were created, Around the year 1600, the type of battles changed to foot soldiers wearing light armor and techniques using a sword held with both hands appeared. This change dates back to the middle of the Heian period (around the year 940) when sophisticated techniques especially designed for the new Japanese sword, now made with a curve and a more complexly constructed blade, began to appear and were tested on the battlefield during a number of civil wars. This was the period when the techniques of Japanese swordsmanship as we know it today began to emerge.

Judo Japanese judo, the refined and advanced development of old Korean martial arts forms, was reintroduced to Korea in 1907 and has attracted the wide participation of Korean athletes and sports-minded men and women. Judo facilities have been established in every part of the country. A judo college was also established in Yong-in near Seoul and many high schools and colleges have adopted judo as an official school sport. Korean judoists have turned in outstanding performances at Olympic competitions and at other events.

That is to say, one doesn't study Bushido merely as an intellectual excercise, one lives it.(以下、省略)
Hello. This is just for your information, because I found the word KUMDO in your International Kendo Directory list. Korean people never write KENDO, but they write Kumdo, or Kum Do. They say that Kumdo has a long history of its own. However, that is not true. The truth is that Kumdo is just a parody of Kendo. With words and terms changed a-la-Korea, it is not authentic Kendo.
