"World Cup Korea/Japan" or "World Cup Japan/Korea"? South Korea's 2002 World Cup organizing committee hopes for a quick resolution of a dispute over the logo on tickets sold in co-host Japan, the head of the committee said Thursday. In an attempt to iron out problems in the organization of the 2002 World Cup, FIFA offered to station soccer management experts in South Korea and Japan.

From "Soccer Digest" (VOL.55), the FIFA chartered the names of the World Cup even to be left to the hosting countries. In other words, there is no "official FIFA executed name" for the event. The campaign slogans you see in Korea "World Cup 2002 - Korea/Japan" are to be found nowhere else in the world but in Korea. Go to the FIFA headquarters in Europe...there is not one single piece of evidence that the marketing tools used in Korea are desginated as "official."
It seems so funny. Korea, a nation of lawlessness where a fat wad of cash is respected more than principle, law, and concern for others, is so anal and picky about following the rules? Please..spare me the humor.
If Korea is so adamant about Japan "following the rules", Korea should start by eliminating the enormous IP/Copyright laws for which Korean industries, technical, journalistic, entertainment are known for. Other than perhaps China, there is no other country than Korea which is so notorious for its blatant rip-offs of products patents, trademarks, or plagiaristic violations, with no feeling of guilt of violating principle at all. Japan did not ever violate a single breach of contract with the FIFA accordances in naming the event Japan/Korea, because this right was left up to the hosting countries in the first place.
Can you imagine the fit that would have occured if the JFA starting whining, crying, and complaining to the FIFA because the Koreans decided to put "World Cup 2002 Korea/Japan" on the back of the opening game tickets? And imagine if the JFA threatened to fight against the KFA for rights to hold the opening game in Korea if the KFA didn't concede to their demands. You'd have Koreans showing the true colors of their national characterstic in a second...yelling, screaming, destroying Japanese property, cursing and screaming the dirty words which pretty much make up half the Korean vocabulary. Not a pretty sight.
It's funny that one other poster likened this quarrel to one mature adult and one stupid idiot. I'd agree with it since it pretty much shines through by the mature action that Japan did by conceding the printing of its name before Korea on the tickets, just to quel and keep the crybabies on the other side from causing anymore trouble...in much the same way an adult gives up something to a screaming 2 year old baby just to shut it up.
You see, for Koreans..this is their sense of logic:
"If a piece of information originates from Korea or shows Korea in a good light, then it's the absolute holy gospel and truth. However, if there is evidence of Korea which shows a negative side of her, then it's false and just a underhanded conspiracty of the evil foreign powers to ruin the heavenly, can do no wrong nation of Korea."
The decision was partly to mollify South Korean objections that Japan was favored because the prized title game will be held there, in Yokohama
